Boone Health: Turning Clinician Visibility into Better Performance Conversations

How Boone Health created a centralized source for clinician performance data, reduced manual work, and helped drive a greater focus on quality improvement.

When Boone Health became an independent health system in 2021, its team faced limitations in how clinician performance information could be accessed and shared. The organization’s existing EMR made it difficult for clinicians to independently access information such as wRVU history, while internal teams relied on more manual processes to compile and distribute performance data.

Boone Health turned to Clinician Nexus to create a more centralized and accessible way to bring that information together.

Creating One Place for Clinician Performance

Today, Boone Health uses Clinician Nexus to give clinicians access to wRVU history, panel calculations, and quality metrics connected to its performance and bonus structure. Instead of relying on spreadsheets, emails, or requests to internal teams, clinicians can log in and see their current and historical information in one place.

For Mike Young, Quality Manager at Boone Health, that became one of the clearest measures of success.

Practice managers can access the same information, giving them another tool for conversations with clinicians and reducing the need to track down information from other teams.

Reducing the Manual Work Behind the Data

The centralized approach has also simplified work behind the scenes. Previously, Young spent time creating and formatting manual clinician scorecards. Now, he enters the necessary information into Clinician Nexus and makes it available directly to clinicians.

While Boone Health has not formally quantified total administrative savings, Young estimates that this scorecard-related work now takes approximately 25% to 50% of the time it previously required.

From Visibility to Better Conversations

For Boone Health, easier access to data has done more than streamline reporting; it has helped change the conversations happening around performance. Clinicians can review updated information throughout the year rather than waiting until year-end or searching through old emails to understand where they stand.

Young says that transparency has helped strengthen relationships and increase awareness among clinicians. When monthly data is published, clinicians now come to the team with more specific questions about their performance, from A1C measures and blood pressure to discharge goals and other quality metrics.

That is an important shift. Performance data is not simply being reported; it is becoming a starting point for conversations about improvement.

Supporting Quality Improvement

Those conversations are especially meaningful within Boone Health’s primary care practices. Young points to measures such as A1C, blood pressure, colorectal cancer screening and mammography as areas where greater awareness can help clinicians identify opportunities for improvement.

Since implementing Clinician Nexus, Young estimates that Boone Health has seen approximately 15% to 20% improvement across many of its primary care quality metrics. While Boone Health does not attribute those improvements to Clinician Nexus alone, greater visibility into performance has helped support the conversations and accountability behind the organization’s broader quality improvement efforts.

Leadership benefits from that visibility as well. Boone Health’s VP of Physicians accesses the platform and its benchmarks to understand clinician productivity and identify areas where additional coaching or improvement may be needed.

Giving Data a Purpose

For Boone Health, the value of centralized performance information goes beyond simply having another place to store data. It means less manual work for the people managing the information, easier access for clinicians and practice managers, greater transparency throughout the year, and more meaningful conversations about how performance can improve.
